General Description
The AAT1239-1 is a high frequency, high efficiency constant current boost converter capable of driving up to ten (10) series-connected white LEDs or 40V. It is an ideal power solutions for backlight applications with up to ten white LEDs in series. The input voltage is 2.7V to 5.5V for single-cell lithium-ion/polymer (Li-ion) based portable devices.
The LED current is digitally controlled across a 6x operating range using AnalogicTech’s Simple Serial Control™ (S2Cwire™) interface. Programmability across 26 discrete current steps provides high resolution, low noise, flicker-free, constant LED outputs. In programming AAT1239 operation, LED brightness increases based on the data applied at the EN/SET pin. The SEL logic pin changes the feedback voltage between two programmable ranges.
The AAT1239-1 features a high current limit and fast, stable transitions for stepped or pulsed current applications. The high switching frequency (up to 2MHz) provides fast response and allows the use of ultra-small external components, including chip inductors and capacitors. Fully integrated control circuitry simplifies design and reduces total solution size. The AAT1239-1 offers a true load disconnect feature which isolates the load from the power source while in the OFF or disabled state. This eliminates leakage current, making the devices ideally suited for battery-powered applications.
The AAT1239-1 is available in the Pb-free, thermallyenhanced 12-pin TSOPJW package.

Description
The SC4538 is designed to regulate current for a series string of white LEDs in LCD backlighting applications where small size and high effi ciency are priorities. This device integrates an 800kHz current-mode PWM boost converter and a 30mA programmable low dropout current sink regulator.
An external resistor sets the LED current up to 30mA. PWM dimming (100Hz to 50kHz) may be applied directly to the enable (EN) pin, or dimming can be controlled by applying an analog signal to the ISET circuit. The boost circuit can output up to 38V (guaranteed) to drive up to 10 LEDs in series. The current regulator protects against shorts between the BL and OUT pins and also eliminates backlight glow during shutdown when using LEDs with high leakage. Under-voltage lockout and thermal shutdown provide additional protection. A small external capacitor and series resistor control soft-start and loop compensation. Over-voltage detection protects the SC4538 if the BL pin is fl oating or shorted to ground.
The SC4538 is available in an MLPD-8 pin 2mm x 2mm x 0.6mm package, with a rated temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

General Description
The LM3402/02HV are monolithic switching regulators designed to deliver constant currents to high power LEDs. Ideal for automotive, industrial, and general lighting applications, they contain a high-side N-channel MOSFET switch with a current limit of 735 mA (typical) for step-down (Buck) regulators. Description
This design note shows the ZXSC400 driving a single 3W LED. The input voltage ranges from 1.8V to 3.6V with constant output current of 700mA down to 2.6V with an overall 80% of efficiency.
Figure 1 shows typical constant current solution with ZXSC400 driving one 3W LED. The input
voltage range allows the use of two alkaline batteries or one Lithium Ion cell (CR123A) for
portable flashlight applications.
Q1 and Q2 forms a pseudo Darlington pair which provide enough current gain for a switching
current up to 1.5A. In order to provide better switch off performance, a Schottky diode, D2, is used to drain the base current from the base of Q1 directly. In order to achieve higher efficiency, current monitor U2 is used to provide a low voltage drop LED current sensing through the low ohmic resistor, R2. The LED current is converted to 300mV feedback voltage through R3.

DESCRIPTION
The SP6682 is a current regulated charge pump ideal for converting a Li-Ion battery input for driving white LEDs used in backlighting color displays or cell phone camera flash applications. The charge pump automatically switches between X1.5 and X2 modes based on the program-mable VMODE voltage, providing improved efficiency over traditional methods using charge pump doubler followed by LDO. This input voltage threshold can be externally programmed by a resistor divider network for optimized efficiency at specific output voltages and currents. The SP6682 operates with an internal 600kHz clock, which reduces switching noise and improves VOUT ripple.Output current or voltage can be accurately regulated by modulating the switcher between the charge pump and output capacitor.
