The VN920DSP is a monolithic device made by using STMicroelectronics VIPower M0-3
Technology, intended for driving any kind of load with one side connected to ground.
Active VCC pin voltage clamp protects the device against low energy spikes (see ISO7637 transient compatibility table).
Active current limitation combined with thermal shutdown and automatic restart protect the device against overload.
The device detects open load condition both is on and off state. Output shorted to VCC is detected in the off state. Device automatically turns off in case of ground pin disconnection.

New LED Driver from National’s PowerWise Energy-Efficient Product Family Drives Luminus’ Ultra-High-Current PhlatLight LEDs

LEDS 2007, SAN DIEGO, Calif. – October 24, 2007 -
National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) today introduced the industry’s first common-anode, current-mode, high-brightness light-emitting diode (LED) driver with pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming.  The LM3433, a member of National’s PowerWise® energy-efficient product family, drives high-power, high-brightness LEDs in backlighting, projector and solid-state lighting applications.

National will show its LM3433 LED driver with Luminus Devices’ PhlatLight™ LED in National’s booth #26 at the LEDs 2007 conference in San Diego from Oct. 24 to 27.  On Oct. 26 at the same conference, Luminus Devices will demonstrate its LED and National’s driver at 2:45 p.m during session six, “Entertaining in a New Light”.

National’s LM3433 LED driver opens the way for high-reliability LEDs to be used in large-screen liquid crystal display (LCD) television (TV) backlighting applications where a common anode approach offers a thermal advantage.  In another example, LEDs can be used in today’s shrinking “pocket projector” designs for a wider color gamut, higher reliability and longer life expectancy than the ultra-high performance (UHP) lamps used today.

Luminus’ PhlatLight LEDs are a new class of LED for very high-brightness applications where a point source of light is needed.  The PhlatLight RGB LED demonstration at National’s booth will be capable of producing over 3,000 white lumens.  “PhlatLight LEDs are being designed into a number of display and lighting applications,” said John Langevin, vice president of sales and marketing at Luminus.  “National’s LM3433 driver provides a more complete solution for our customers, enabling use at the intended high performance levels that the PhlatLight chipsets were designed for.”

Technical Features of National’s LM3433 LED Driver
National’s LM3433 is a constant on-time DC-DC buck (step-down) constant-current regulator.  It outputs a negative constant current for lighting high-power, high-brightness LEDs.  The negative voltage option allows the anode of the LED to be tied directly to the ground-referenced chassis for maximum heat sink efficacy.  The short constant-on-time architecture allows the use of small external passive components and no output capacitor.  Two current control modes modulate LED brightness.  An analog current control input is provided so the LM3433 can be adjusted to compensate for LED manufacturing variations.  The other current control is a logic-level dimming input for PWM control of LED brightness.  The PWM functions by shorting out the LED with a parallel switch, allowing high PWM dimming frequencies up to 40 KHz.  Additional features include thermal shutdown, VCC under-voltage lockout and logic-level shutdown mode.

General Description
The CL330 is designed to drive 3 strings of LEDs at a constant current of 30mA. Other drivers with currents in the range of 20 - 30mA are available. The drive current is fi xed, with a ±6% tolerance over a VOUT range of 4 - 15V.
Separate enable pins for each channel allow for PWM dimming, 3-step linear dimming, or individual disconnection of faulty LED strings.
Over-temperature protection circuitry shuts down all 3 channels when the nominal die temperature reaches 135°C.
Normal operation resumes when the die temperature drops by 30°C.
The CL330 is available in the 8-Lead SOIC (w/Heat Slug) package and requires a single ceramic bypass capacitor which may be shared among several drivers.

The L6219DS motor driver is designed to drive both windings of a bipolar stepper motor or bidirectionally control two DC motors. Both bridges are capable of sustaining 45 V and include
internal pulse-width modulation (PWM) control of the output current to 750 mA. The outputs have been optimized for a low output saturation voltage drop (less than 1.8 V total source
plus sink at 500 mA).
For PWM current control, the maximum output current is determined by user selection of a reference voltage and sensing resistor. Two logic-level inputs select output current limits of
0, 33, 67, or 100% of the maximum level. A PHASE input to each bridge determines load current direction.
The bridges include both ground clamp and flyback diodes for protection against inductive transients. Internally generated delays prevent crossover currents when switching current
direction. Special power-up sequencing is not required. Thermal protection circuitry disables the outputs if the chip temperature exceeds safe operating limits.
The L6219DS is supplied in a 24-pin surface-mountable SOIC, with 4 internally-fused leads for maximum package power dissipation in the smallest possible construction. It is lead (Pb) free with 100% matte tin leadframe plating.

The LT®3498 is a dual output boost converter featuring a 2.3MHz PWM LED Driver and PFM OLED Driver. It includes an internal power switch and Schottky diode for each driver. Both converters can be independently shut down and modulated. This highly integrated power solution is ideal for dual display electronic devices.
The 2.3MHz step-up converter is designed to drive up to six white LEDs in series from a Li-Ion cell. The device features a unique high side LED current sense that enables the part to function as a “one-wire” current source—one side of the LED string can be returned to ground anywhere. Traditional LED drivers use a grounded resistor to sense LED current, requiring a 2-wire connection to the LED string.
The PFM OLED driver is a low noise boost converter that features a novel control technique.
The converter controls power delivery by varying both the peak inductor current and switch off time. This technique results in low output voltage ripple, as well as, high effi ciency over a wide load range. The off time of the switch is not allowed to exceed a fi xed level, guaranteeing a switching frequency that stays above the audio band.
