The FPF218x and FPF219x Series of IntelliMAX™ Load Switches in 1mm x 1.5mm WL-CSP Packaging Offer 60 Percent Space Savings

San Jose, California – December 11, 2007 – Fairchild Semiconductor’s (NYSE: FCS) FPF218x and FPF219x series of advanced load switches provide 60 percent space savings, making them ideal for space-constrained portable applications. Packaged in a 1mm x 1.5mm wafer-level chip scale package (WL-CSP), these are the smallest load switches of their class, and retain the same low RDS(ON) performance found in standard leaded-package devices.

These two series of IntelliMAX products offer integrated protection circuitry, including over-current protection, current blanking, reverse-current blocking, over temperature and thermal shutdown protection. Included in this series is a new feature called “Power Good,” which provides a logic source sense signal, and can be used to validate the presence of the power supply on the load switch’s input pin. All of these built-in features provide robust protection from the harshest of mobile environments.

The FPF218x and FPF219x series utilize lead-free (Pb-free) terminals and have been characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the Pb-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020. Most computing applications do not run at 100 percent load all the time and delivering the right performance at the right current levels reduces power losses for these applications. In the Power category, Fairchild’s FDMF6700, a fully optimized and integrated FET plus driver power stage solution in ultra-compact 6mm x 6mm MLP packaging, ranked four out of ten in technical significance. The FAN5665 Saves 20 Percent Board Space in Portable Applications

San Jose, California – December 27, 2007 – Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) brings designers an ultra-small boost converter solution for their space-constrained mobile and ultra-portable devices. The FAN5665 is a high efficiency 5V/30mA adaptive charge pump boost converter packaged in a low profile, compact 1.21mm X 1.21mm WL-CSP package, saving over 20 percent board space compared to alternate solutions. For USB enabled devices needing a 5V I/O rail, Fairchild’s FAN5665 provides an optimal “quick fix” solution. The FAN5665 can also be used to drive keypad LEDs in portable devices. This boost converter features a low 0.625mm (max) profile and does not require a bulky inductor, offering a slim solution for network cards or other thin portable applications.

Through the use of switch reconfiguration and fractional switching techniques, the FAN5665 achieves up to 92 percent efficiency and can support an input voltage range of 2.9V to 5.5V. In addition, the switches are pre-buffered to provide a low in-rush current which results in minimized noise on the supply line. Low impedance 30V-40V MOSFETs lower power dissipation and improve efficiency for high power automotive systems

The FXL2TD245 in MicroPak™ offers unique design flexibility while dramatically reducing board space in low-voltage designs

December 5, 2006––South Portland, Maine––Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) introduces the FXL2TD245, the first dual-supply bi-directional translator on the market configurable for both uni-directional and independent bi-directional voltage translation between two logic levels. In addition to offering designers unparalleled design flexibility in a wide variety of low-voltage applications, this MicroPak™-packaged translator helps them dramatically save board space. The FXL2TD245 measures only 0.55mm x 1.6mm x 2.1mm, which is 80 percent smaller than comparable dual-supply translators in SOIC packages. It also replaces two 1-bit components used in typical designs.
