General Description
 The LPC47M172 is a 3.3V (5V tolerant) PC99a/PC2001 compliant Advanced I/O controller for Desktop PCs.
The device, which implements the Low Pin Count (LPC) interface, includes I/O functionality as well as Motherboard GLUE logic into a 128-pin package.
This is space saving solution on the motherboard resulting in lower cost.
The LPC47M172 also provides 13 general purpose pins, which offer flexibility to the system designer, and two Fan Tachometer Inputs.
The LPC47M172’s LPC interface supports LPC I/O and DMA cycles.
The LPC47M172 includes complete legacy I/O: a keyboard interface with AMITM BIOS; SMSC's true CMOS 765B floppy disk controller with advanced digital data separator; two 16C550A compatible UARTs; one Multi-Mode parallel port including ChiProtect circuitry plus EPP and ECP.
The true CMOS 765B core provides 100% compatibility with IBM PC/XT and PC/AT architectures; in addition, it provides data overflow and underflow protection.
The SMSC’s patented advanced digital data separator allows for ease of testing and use.
The parallel port is compatible with IBM PC/AT architecture, as well as IEEE 1284 EPP and ECP.
The LPC47M172 incorporates sophisticated power control circuitry (PCC) which includes support for keyboard and mouse wake up events as well as PME support.
The PCC supports multiple low power-down modes.
The LPC47M172 is ACPI 1.0b/2.0 compatible.
The Motherboard GLUE logic includes various power management logic; including generation of nRSMRST, Power OK signal generation, 5V main and standby reference generation.
There are also three LEDs to indicate power status and hard drive activity.
The translation circuit converts 3.3V signals to 5V signals.
Also included is SMBus main power well to resume power well isolation circuitry.
The LPC47M172 supports the ISA Plug-and-Play Standard register set (Version 1.0a).
The I/O Address, DMA Channel and hardware IRQ of each logical device in the LPC47M172 may be reprogrammed through the internal configuration registers.
There are up to 480 (960 for Parallel Port) I/O address location options, a Serialized IRQ interface, and three DMA channels.
On chip, Interrupt Generating Registers enable external software to generate IRQ1 through IRQ15 on the Serial IRQ Interface.
The LPC47M172’s Enhanced Digital Data Separator does not require any external filter components and is therefore easy to use and offers lower system costs and reduced board area.
The LPC47M172 is register compatible with SMSC’s proprietary 82077AA core.

General Description
The EMC6D102 is an environmental monitoring device with automatic fan control capability. This ACPI compliant device provides hardware monitoring for up to five voltages and three thermal zones, measures the speed of up to four fans, and controls the speed of multiple DC fans using Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) outputs.
 
 The EMC6D102 hardware monitor provides analog inputs for monitoring external voltages of +2.5V, +5V, +12V and Vccp. This device has the capability to monitor its own internal VCC power supply, which may be connected to either main power (VCC) or the suspend power well (VTR). In addition to monitoring the processor voltage, VID inputs are available to identify the voltage specification. External components are not required for voltage scaling or similar treatment.

 The EMC6D102 hardware monitor includes support for monitoring three thermal zones: two external and one internal. The external temperatures are measured via thermal diode inputs capable of monitoring remote devices. In addition, they are equipped with an ambient temperature sensor for measuring the internal temperature.
Pulse Width Modulators (PWM) control the speed of the fans by varying the output duty cycle of the PWM. Each PWM can be associated with any or all of the thermal zones monitored. As the
temperature of the associated zone varies, the PWM duty cycle is adjusted accordingly. The Ramp Rate Control feature controls the rate of change of the PWM output, thereby reducing system noise created by changing the fan speed. The speed of each fan is monitored by a Fan Tachometer input.

 The measured values are compared to values stored in Limit Registers to detect if a fan has stalled or seized. Fan speed may be under host software control or automatic. In host control mode, the host software continuously monitors temperature and fan speed registers, makes decisions as to desired fan speed and sets the PWM’s to drive the required fan speed. This device offers an interrupt output signal (INT#), which may be used to interrupt the host on out-of-limit temperature or voltage condition enabling an ACPI response as opposed to the host software continuously monitoring status. In auto “zone” mode, the logic continuously monitors the temperature and fan speeds and adjusts speeds without intervention from the host CPU. Fan speed is adjusted according to an algorithm using the temperature measured in the selected zone, the high and low limits set by the user, and the current fan speed.

General Description
 The SMSC SIO1000 is a 3.3V PC 99, PC2001, and ACPI 2.0 compliant Super I/O Controller. The
SIO1000 implements the LPC interface, a pin reduced ISA interface which provides the same or better performance as the ISA/X-bus with a substantial savings in pins used. The part also includes 14 GPIO pins.
 The SIO1000 incorporates a 16C550A compatible UART and one Multi-Mode parallel port with
ChiProtect™ circuitry plus EPP and ECP support. The SIO1000 does not require any external filter components, is easy to use and offers lower system cost and reduced board area.
The SIO1000 offers a full 16-bit internally decoded address bus, a Serial IRQ interface with PCI
CLKRUN# support, relocatable configuration ports, and three DMA channel options.
The on-chip UART is compatible with the 16C550A. There is a dedicated Serial Infrared interface UART, which complies with IrDA v1.2 (Fast IR), HPSIR, and ASKIR formats (used by Sharp and other PDAs), as well as Consumer IR. There is a second dedicated Consumer Infrared interface, which complies with NEC PPM and Phillips RC5 formats.
 The parallel port is compatible with IBM PC/AT architectures, as well as IEEE 1284 EPP and ECP. The parallel port ChiProtect™ circuitry prevents damage caused by an attached powered printer when the SIO1000 is not powered. The SIO1000 features Software Configurable Logic (SCL) for ease of use. SCL allows programmable system configuration of key functions such as the parallel port and UART.
 The SIO1000 supports the ISA Plug-and-Play Standard register set (Version 1.0a) and provides the recommended functionality to support Windows operating systems, PC99, and PC2001. The I/O Address, DMA Channel, and Hardware IRQ of each device in the SIO1000 may be reprogrammed through the internal configuration registers. There are multiple I/O address location options, a Serialized IRQ interface, and three DMA channels.
